Pregnancy and Infant Care Childbirth Education Classes


Woodland Healthcare offers Childbirth Education Classes taught by trained instructors. They are designed to be started by the seventh month of your pregnancy and completed one month before your due date. Register by your fourth month of pregnancy to assure that space is available.

For more information about class dates, times and locations, or to sign up for classes, please contact the Education Department at (530) 669-5540. We are located in the Advanced Imaging and Surgery Center building at 1321 Cottonwood St., third floor, suite 308. The office is open 8 a.m - 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Childbirth Preparation
Select from either a four-week Wednesday evening series, or a one-time weekend series. Both are designed to provide you with the knowledge of alternatives to assist you in making personal choices about the birth of your baby. Class information provides the foundation to provide an understanding of labor and birth, in order to increase confidence and trust of the birthing process. Participants will learn to recognize the signs and stages of labor, utilize comfort measures, and understand pain management techniques, medical interventions, and postpartum care.
Four week series - Wednesdays, 6:30 -9 p.m., $75
Weekend Series - Fridays, 6:30-9 p.m. & Saturdays, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., $65

Childbirth Refresher
This course is designed for parents who have taken a childbirth preparation class within the last three years and want to review the process of labor, comfort measures, pain management and intervention, as well as discuss their previous birth and parenting experiences, prior to the arrival of another child.
One class - Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m, $45

Family Birth Center Tour
View Woodland Healthcare's birthing rooms, learn what items to bring with you to the hospital, discuss pain management options and participate in a group question and answer session. Tour starts in the hosptial lobby, 1st floor, Woodland Memorial Hospital - please do not bring children on tour. Call (530) 669-5540 to sign up, Free

First Wednesday of every month (ENGLISH), 7:30 p.m.
Third Wednesday of every month (SPANISH), 7:30 p.m.
Every Saturday, (ENGLISH or SPANISH), 10:30 a.m.

Nurturing Your Newborn (Baby Care Basics & Breastfeeding)
The morning portion of this class will cover newborn appearance and behavior, daily care (including bathing, diaper changing, swaddling), signs of illness, comfort techniques and safety issues. The afternoon segment will discuss breastfeeding, including overview of benefits, anatomy, techniques, breast vs. bottle, family adjustments, common difficulties and concerns, as well as back-to-work issues. Partners are encouraged to participate.
One class - Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., $45

GRAND-Parenting
Special class especially designed for grandparents-to-be. This class is designed to acquaint them with the current maternity and pediatric practices. We will discuss how to help during pregnancy, birth and after the baby is born. Class is also open to those who will be long-distance grandparenting. Class will include a tour of the Family Birth Center.
One class - Sundays, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. , $15 (not covered by Medi-Cal)

Super Siblings
This class is designed for children (ages 3 – 7) that are becoming “big brothers and big sisters”. This class will help them feel special and look forward to the new baby. While singing along with a video designed specifically for them, we will demonstrate hands-on activities of do’s and don’ts of helping with a new sibling. A personal tour of our Family Birth Center and a light snack will be provided.
One class - Sundays, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., $15 (not covered by Medi-Cal)

Postpartum Support Group for New Mothers
Join Woodland Healthcare lactation consultants and staff, along with other new mothers to answer questions and share the challenges and joys of bringing baby home. You are welcome to bring your baby, significant other and family members to this support group. The support group is bilingual, open to the public and FREE of charge. The support group meets once a week, every Monday, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the education classroom, 632 W. Gibson Road.  For more information, call 530.669.5420.
